Dig a trench about 6 inches wider than the drain pipe you plan to bury and dig the hole deep enough so that the drainpipe sits 3 inches below grade.
How to bury a gutter downspout drain.
In the pictures you can see how i connect the downspouts to my pvc system.
First thing first dig a trench.
On the flip side burying drain pipe is more work intensive but it s a guaranteed way to keep water away.
Make sure your downspout extension and connector fit together and on your gutter.
The most difficult part is digging the trench.
Turn the drain so that the slots in the side are face down.
Make the trench the same width as the downspout pipe and about 12 inches deep.
Repeat the similar procedure for the other end of the angle to connect it to the ground pipe.
Add gravel to the end of the trench past the end of the drain so that it is level with the gravel covering the drain.
Pull the end of the drain onto the end of the outflow of your downspout.
We suggest topping the pipe off with a pop up emitter.
To do this i cut the black corrugated pipe added a t and aimed the pipe upwards to the downspout.
If you bought a flexible downspout extension chances are you re trying to redirect rainwater from making a puddle at the base of your foundation.
Since my in ground pipe ran right past the garage i had the garage downspout dump in as well.
Cover the inside of the fitting with pvc cement and push it into the lower end of the gutter downspout.
With a flexible downspout extension you can redirect rainwater around bushes and cement to have it flow into your garden to a flowerbed or just away from your house.
To avoid these problems bury your gutter downspout and direct the storm water flow away from your house.
Dig a trench along the desired route of the drain pipe.
Weisman recommends extending the trench at least 8 feet from the downspout if there s available space.
Start laying your drain pipe by attaching a 90 degree angle pipe to the gutter downspout.
On the house i used downspout adapters with leaf guards.
We researched how long and deep the trench should be.
We found that the trench needs to be 10 12 inches deep with about a 2 inch slope.
