How to install a weathervane on a metal roof.
If your house has a cupola that is an ideal location for the weather vane.
Place the mounting rod that came with the weathervane in the mount and mark it about 16 inches above the roof or to the length specified in the mounting instructions.
Your weather vane should be mounted at the highest point of your roof.
Use 3 inch 14 galvanized wood screws or self driving lag screws to secure the weathervane to the roof over the shingles.
We installed a layer of vycor self adhesive flashing tape as an added layer of weather protection.
If not the ridge of the roof will work well.
Then use a hacksaw to trim the post.
If you are using the roof mount place a dab of roofing cement on the screws to prevent a leak.

If using a bracket you are essentially putting an intermediary between the stainless steel rod and the surface to which it is being attached.
