Gutter downspouts that drain freely into a splash tray beside your house can cause serious water damage including flooding your crawl space or basement. Dig a trench about 6 inches wider than the drain pipe you plan to bury and dig the hole deep enough so that the drainpipe sits 3 inches below grade. Start laying your drain pipe by attaching a 90 degree angle pipe to the gutter downspout. Cover the inside of the fitting with pvc cement and push it into the lower end of the gutter downspout.

Since my in ground pipe ran right past the garage i had the garage downspout dump in as well. Dig a sloping trench from your downspout to a point 8 feet away. We suggest topping the pipe off with a pop up emitter. Dig a trench along the desired route of the drain pipe.

Besides making sure the slope is correct you ll want to make sure the pipe run ends in a good location. Have your downspout extension and connector together then place on your gutter.
