The latest garage door sensors are technologically advanced and even allow you to control the opening and closing through an app on your smartphone. Inspect each sensor to make sure the green or red power indicator lights are illuminated. If the red source led is blinking twice with the sensor light lit check the door sensor for obstruction and make sure nothing is obstructing the source of the beam. Test the door to assess if it will still crush the box you have placed in front of the sensor. The light is emitted from one side of the garage door to a receiving unit on the other side of the door. Perhaps you fear the sensor might be low on batteries or worse nearing the end of its lifespan. When genie safety sensors are misaligned the red receiving sensor light will blink.

The problem is either due to a blocked path between the sensors dirty eyes loose wires at the sensors or at the motor head or just bad sensors. Raise the garage door using the control button on the garage wall or the remote control unit from a vehicle. When the infra red sensors are malfunctioning usually one of the sensor lights will be blinking. Garage door sensors work using an infrared beam of light.

This is a nice feature because if the light is blinking then you know you have power going to the receiving sensor all you have to do is align them. Genie garage door openers use a green light for the sending sensor and a red light for the receiving sensor.
